H20 for LIFE

Sooo, today we are talking about water. We all know water is essential for life. The adult human body is composed of up to 60% water.

According to H.H. Mitchell, Journal of Biological Chemistry 158, the brain and heart are composed of 73% water, and the lungs are about 83% water. The skin contains 64% water, muscles and kidneys are 79%, and even the bones are watery: 31%.

Every day we need water to survive. There are many ways to calculate how much water you should have each day.

A good rule of thumb is your weight in pounds (lbs) divided by two. That equals the minimum amount of water in ounces you should drink each day.

Weight in (lbs) / 2 = Water in (oz)

Many people have trouble drinking enough or having water at all.

Here are some tips that have helped me and others I have consulted.

When you have trouble remembering:

· I have made a habit to take a water bottle with me wherever I go.

· If you work in an office space, keep a water bottle or a glass on top of your desk as a reminder to hydrate yourself throughout the day.

· Use a glass jar or a hard-plastic bottle of the size of your preference. Make sure you have hard plastic if you choose this route. Those are most likely to be BPA free and therefore will not change its composition if exposed to heat.

For better taste:

· I recommend putting fresh herbs such as peppermint in your water bottle.

· A slice of lemon or orange will give a nice citric taste to your water.

· I've also heard how some people enjoy putting essential oils in their water.

* Make sure you are using an essential oil that is safe to take internally.

Some Misconceptions & Myths:

Drinking juice, non-herbal teas, coffee or caffeinated drinks, sodas and energy drinks are keeping them hydrated and count as water intake.

FACT:

Reality is, many of these drinks are actually dehydrating your body even more!

The amount of sugar and caffeine containing in drinks contribute to your daily struggle with dehydration.

· It can eventually become chronic which a lot of times will manifest itself with symptoms such as headaches, flaky skin, constipation, constant muscle weakness and fatigue. All these symptoms could be caused by chronic dehydration. This is something continually growing and little talked about.

Using water flavoring agents is a great way to improve your water intake.

FACT:

Many individuals will use water flavors and those are also NOT recommended.

Once again, these packets or drops are filled with sugar, artificial sweeteners, stabilizers, preservatives and artificial coloring dyes that have compounds in them linked to cancer.

Fun Fact
